Blue Skies and Green Labels

Blue Skies and Green Labels

The weather in the North State has been beautiful the past few days. With bright blue skies  (and non-existant wind) the weather has been an absolute pleasure to be out in. The flows on the Lower Sac are slowly on the rise, currently just above 5,000 cubes. With Shasta Lake filling up they should continue to increase towards summertime levels. These warm summer-like temps combined with the flow increase should get the Hydropsyche (summer caddis) going. While the Lower Sac is in great shape – the Upper Sac is starting to hit run-off with flows around 3,000 cubes (at Delta). There is still good fishing to be had – you just need to know where to look. The inside seams and softer water near the banks will hold the majority of the fish. Don’t be afraid to add a little extra split to get your bugs down to the dance floor. The bigger flows will knock a lot of the stoneflies free from the rocks – be sure to have a handfull of stonefly nymphs, the fish will be looking for them. Here are some photos from the past few days.
