Good Gets Better
I had the pleasure of guiding some great folks this past weekend. Not only was the fishing good, the company was even better. Some highlights; I had a first time fly fisher make tremendous strides in her game in only a few hours on the water. Heather put a hurtin’ on more than a few big rainbows on the Lower Sac. I got to spend part of opening weekend on the McCloud River with three great people. Sarah, Sean, and Dave enjoyed a gorgeous day on this iconic western river. Jim ( A hard-core Delta striper angler ) headed north from the central valley to sample the Lower Sac for the first time. After feeling the pull of so many chunky ‘bows we may have converted a ‘He-Man’ Striper chaser into a ‘Trout Weenie.’ Jim’s comment of the day: “Geez, I can see how this river can really get in your blood.”
River News: The Hydropsyche Caddis of the Lower Sac are starting to move around. They aren’t hatching in great numbers yet but the fish are definitely on the lookout for them. More than a few fish fell victim to the pupa this past weekend. The main event on the Lower Sac continues to be the afternoon mayfly hatches of PMDs. The most consistent bite has been from 12:00 – 5:00. Now is a great time to be on the Lower Sacramento River. The summer heat has not yet arrived and the fish are chowing down. Consider this your official ‘invitation’ to come up and tango with a trophy rainbow.
Not bad for a rookie!
Chewed up – Too many fish for this fly.
