Transitions – Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Transitions – Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

A lot of our rivers are in “transition” mode right now. The fish in the Lower Sac have started to transition into their winter mode. Low flows, gin clear water and small bugs are what to expect out there these days. If you can find a redd that’s fired up with a few spawning salmon you can expect to find a handful of trout piled up behind.. but bugs should be your focal point. We’ve seen a lot of oversized rainbows come to the net this year, especially in the past few weeks. Winter time is when you should expect quality over quantity.

Steelhead fishing in the State of Jefferson has been very good so far this Fall. Expect to deal with ultra crowded conditions on the weekends on the popular rivers. There are plenty of steelhead in the Klamath system and it’s tribs this year. A little bump in flow would really help spread some fish out. I still have a few winter days open this year. Get in on some winter goodness before “El Nino” shows up..
