Winter Transitions

Winter Transitions

It’s been a while since my last report and quite a bit has changed up here in the underwater world. The smell of decaying salmon is strong along the Lower Sac these days, signaling the end of the big Fall spawn. The rainbows up in town have slowed their gorging process and have been acting pretty snobby this past week. There is good fishing to be had in the upper stretches – it’s just much less consistent (and much more unpredictable) than it was earlier this month. The fish are transitioning from the redds to hanging out in more of the winter water spots. When the fish are eating, they have been pretty quick – so veteran anglers are putting bigger numbers of fish to the net than the rookies. As soon as we get a little shot of rain to mix things up and put some color in the water, the fishing up in town should go off again. Do the rain dance, we need it big time this winter.

Here are some town fish that were put in the net recently:

The lower floats have continued to kick out some solid fishing this week. There was a week or so earlier this months where things slowed considerably down there – but as of today the fishing downstream of Anderson is very good. A lot of trout were hooked down there today along with 9 steelhead. Yes, 9. Half of those fish kicked our ass, but a few made it to the net. I’m looking forward to some more solid steelhead days downriver this winter.

I had a day off last week and got to go fishing. I spent the day exploring some new water with my buddy, Chuck from Wild Waters. We spent the day stepping and swinging.. and we even stuck a few.

Anticipation in the nectar:
